Musical Director's Report
Oakdale Silver Band are pleased to announce two new signings and are delighted to welcome Roger Rowland to the Eb Bass Section and James Morris to the Bb Bass section.
We had 3 concerts at the beginning of the year. We visited Merthyr Tydfil Salvation Army Hall and performed to a capacity audience. The we visited Cardiff Cathays Salvation Army Hall and finally entertained some elderly people in Blackwood Nursing home.
The Band travelled to Llandudno in North Wales for the British Brass Bands regional contest on the weekend of 15th/16th March. Unfortunately we didn't manage to qualify for the national finals in September which was disappointing, but there were some really good bands to compete against!
We now look forward to the next local contest on Saturday 17th May held in Rhydycar Leisure Centre in Merthyr Tydfil. Before that the band will be performing a concert in Rhymney on Monday 12th May! Keep looking at our website for further information on this concert.
Finally two dates for your diaries: On Friday 24th October the band will be holding it's Annual Concert with special guests. More information will be given soon, so please keep looking on our website. Then on Saturday 29th November the band are organizing a Showcase Concert in Newbridge Comprehensive School at 7PM with various guest artists. This will be a great evening of different entertainment. All proceeds from this concert will be going to Cancer Wales. Again keep looking at our website as more information will soon be given.
