Well, it has been a great summer for Oakdale Silver Band. Appearing in concert at Cwmfelinfach Community Centre in June to which the people there greeted us with a very warm welcome. We look forward to returning in December.
Then we did our four open air concerts. One in July which took place in Ystrad Mynach Park and three in August down on Penarth Pier to which the crowds really appreciated our range of music which was of a very high standard.
Rehearsals have now started for our next Contest which will take place on Saturday 5th October in Burry Port. My good friend Mr Mike Davies is standing in for me as I am away at a family wedding. So I wish my band all the very best for this Contest.
We are also rehearsing for our Annual Concert which will take place on Friday 18th October at Central Methodist Church in Blackwood. Tickets are now on sale at £4 per person and can be obtained from any band member or by contacting our band Secretary on 01495224470. Our guests for this evening are the Bargoed Male Voice Choir and compered by Mr Paul Newman.
I would also like to welcome two new members to our band, Anwen Francis who joined on Percussion and Darren Newell who has joined on 2nd Baritone. We are also in the process of looking for a Soprano Cornet player, Back Row Cornet Players, Bb Bass Player and 2nd Percussionist.
